Frequently Asked Questions
- Customizable QR Plate Text
- Can QR Plates Be Removed?
1. Customizable QR Plate Text: Generally you want the top line to indicate what the QR is for. The 2nd line is usually used for company/organization name or homepage address (without http://www). The 3rd line instructions are reserved for your users not familiar with QR usage yet. The 4th line (if not using our “Unique” option) is available so maybe you can have company/organization name on 2nd line AND homepage address for 4th line. The 4th line has has smaller text.
The top line can be customized to your situation, but the more characters the smaller the text is. The top line (at top of QR plate) reads better for users if it explains what purpose the QR has. Around 18-20 characters should be the maximum used, but shorter is larger, thus read from further away. For many uses, “QR for Info” works well because it is short. However QR plates in some usages may need something more specific such as “Instructions” or “Apartment News” or “Parts & Manual” or “Campus Map” or “Building History” or “Flora Information” or “Next Clue” etc. The only limit is trying to keep it under 20 characters.
The 2nd line directly under the QR code (2nd line from top) can also be 18-20 characters. This is a good place to put company/organizational name or homepage address if short. Remember 18-20 characters.
The 4th line from top (if you do not use our “Unique” option) can also give you an additional line of smaller text up to 25 characters. This could be used if your company/organizational name needs a few more characters than what you can get on the 2nd line. That would free up the 18-20 2nd line for something else. You do not have to use the 4th line! Our “Unique” option requires the 4th line for a serial number.
2. Can QR Plates Be Removed? Yes, but! Because our proprietary tape is so strong, the plate will be damaged during removal. One of Outdoor QR Labels’ strengths is the plate is difficult to remove. On rock, cement, block, metal, and most plastics, it is fairly easy to do without damaging the surface. Normally plates can be removed with a screw driver and a rag. The rag is placed under the screwdriver towards the tip of the screwdriver as a pivot point or fulcrum (like a seesaw). The screwdriver should go under the lip of the plate, then push down on the screwdriver handle. It will raise the plate a little. Reposition the screwdriver to keep working up the side of the plate. Keep going inward until the plate comes off. IMPORTANT: The reason the rag is needed is so the screwdriver doesn’t scratch your surface! Just prying with a screwdriver will scratch the object or surface the plate is attached to. After the plate is removed, use your thumb or finger to roll off any remaining tape without cleaner. Don’t use the screwdriver to scrape!
Removal Challenges: 1. If the plate has been on a surface or object a long while, the surrounding surface may have faded, but the surface under where the plate was will not, thus leaving a slight rectangle shade. 2. If the QR plate is mounted on painted wood or sheetrock or just on a heavily painted surface, it can pull the paint or even sheetrock paper off! The adhesive is usually stronger than paint. Use the above method with a good cushion rag for the fulcrum to lesson any sheetrock paper tearing. Might have to touch up the paint.
